THE EVOLUTION OF THE SNEAKER PT 3

FYI: 60% of people in the United States have worn Converse's Chuck Taylors in their lifetime.

1971: Bill Bowerman, head track coach at the University of Oregon, pours rubber into a waffle iron to create a lighter sole-the basis for all Nike sneakers.

1981: Sean Penn, as Jeff Spicoli popularizes Vans slip-ons in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

1982: Japanese shoe designer Onitsuka Tiger, creates a shoe specifically for the competitive sport of Tug of War.
